| Section type | Sizes and dimensions from | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| **Universal beams and columns, bearing piles, PFC, TFB** | AS/NZS 3679.1 sizes as rolled by InfraBuild (300PLUS) ([source](https://www.infrabuild.com/steel/products/structural-steel/structural-steel-universal-beams/)) | I_x, I_y within 0.12% (median) and 0.9% (max) of published tables across 259 sections; 310UB40.4 A, I, Z, S, J, I_w, φM_sx and φV_v match InfraBuild |
| **Welded beams and columns** | AS/NZS 3679.2 standard sizes | I_x, I_y within 1% of published tables |
| **Equal and unequal angles** | InfraBuild structural and merchant-bar angle ranges ([source](https://www.infrabuild.com/steel/products/bar-sections/equal-angles-merchant-bar/)) | All 62 sizes and nominal masses match InfraBuild; calculated mass within ±0.4%; principal I_u, I_v within 0.5% of published tables |
| **Beam and column tees** | Derived by halving the UB/UC sections above (cut at mid-depth, no kerf) | Geometry exact; inherits the parent section's verification |
| **CHS, SHS, RHS** | Australian Tube Mills, *Design Capacity Tables for Structural Steel Hollow Sections* (Aug 2013): sizes, grades, corner radii ([source](https://www.steel.org.au/getattachment/736e5877-5a2c-4eee-aeb8-2d127dc8700b/atm_dct_sshs_aug13_.pdf)) | A and I_x within 0.43% for 162 sections; mass within 0.44% for all 251; ATM's worked example (400×200×8 RHS: Z_ex, compactness, k_f) reproduced |
| **C and Z purlins** | Lysaght *Zeds & Cees User Guide*: dimensions, thicknesses, grades ([source](https://cdn.dcs.lysaght.com/download/lysaght-zeds-cees-purlins-and-girts-user-guide)) | A, I_x, I_y, I_u, I_v and α match Lysaght's published values |
| **Flat, round and square bar** | InfraBuild merchant-bar ranges ([source](https://www.infrabuild.com/steel/products/bar-sections/flat-bar-merchant-bar/)) | Geometry exact (rectangles and circles) |
| **Design capacities** | AS 4100:2020 (clauses checked against the Standard); steel strengths per AS 4100 Table 2.1 | ASI worked example (250UC72.9 column, L_e = 4 m, φN_c = 1915 kN) and ATM worked example reproduced; regression tests run on every build |
| **Beam and lateral restraint calculators** | AS/NZS 1170.0 strength combinations 1.35G and 1.2G + 1.5Q; AS 4100:2020 Cl 5.3.2.4, 5.4, 5.6, 5.11 and 5.12.3 | Moments, shears and deflections match closed-form results; the browser calculators give the same φM_b and φN_c as the section tables for every section and length (automated tests) |
| **Bolt and weld capacities** | AS 4100:2020 Table 3.4, Table 9.2.1, Cl 9.2.2–9.2.3, 9.5, 9.6.3.10 (Tables 9.6.3.10(A) and (B)), 14.3.2 and Table 15.2.2.2; bolt areas from AS 1275 | M20 8.8/S φV_f = 92.6 kN and φN_tf = 163 kN, as in the ASI design capacity tables; grade 10.9 and the 2020 weld metal strengths (e.g. 6 mm E49XX SP fillet weld 0.998 kN/mm) checked by hand; automated tests |

## Method

Only nominal dimensions are entered by hand. Every other value (area, second moments, section moduli, torsion and warping constants, AS 4100 capacities) is calculated from the section geometry, including root and toe radii, as described on the [notation & method](https://steelinfo.au/notation/) page. The calculated values are compared with the manufacturers' published tables, and the comparisons are kept as automated tests that run whenever the site is rebuilt.

Nominal masses are the manufacturers' catalogue values. Availability of particular sizes varies by supplier and region, so check stock before specifying.

Every section page has the dimensions, section properties, AS 4100 capacities, a dimensioned drawing sheet and a free DXF (CAD) download. Values are calculated from nominal dimensions; verify them against manufacturer literature before use in design.
