Hot-rolled H-sections with equal flange and web thickness, used for driven piles and heavy columns. Dimensions, section properties, AS 4100 capacities and free DXF drawings for all 3 sizes.

Universal bearing piles (UBP) are hot-rolled H-sections with flange and web of nearly equal thickness. That makes them robust under driving and suited to end-bearing and friction piles, soldier piles in retaining walls and heavy columns.

Piles are designed to AS 2159 (piling) as well as AS 4100. For piles in soil or water, allow for corrosion by deducting a sacrificial thickness from the exposed faces before calculating the section capacity; the properties here are for the full nominal section.

## Frequently asked questions

**UBP or UC for a pile?**

UBPs have a web almost as thick as the flanges, which suits hard driving. A UC of similar mass has a thinner web and is usually the better column.
